    looking back

I wrote this post about my daydreams almost a year ago and never actually published it. I was perusing my old drafts and found it surprisingly relevant still, but with slight modifications. As the move to North Carolina looms just days in front of me, I’ve been thinking a lot about where I am in life. Big life changes tend to catalyze introspection for me. All I want to do is turn inward and hide away until the storm subsides, but the real thing to do is buck up, put on a raincoat, and march right out into it. Perhaps, though, the “storm” metaphor is far too dramatic for this moment in time. When I think about it, I feel more like a little bird on a big migration. Luckily I’ve got my flock to keep me moving forward.

So here are my old daydreams with some current notes. I have a few more things to add to this list, but I’m only posting the old ones for now. I’m saving my new daydreams because I’m hoping to share them with you when they are no longer dreams at all, but instead a part of my reality. =) More to come on that later … but until then, here’s to looking back:

    • move into a bigger space: open, airy apartment or house with bright white walls on a quiet street. must have an outdoor space for potted plants or a garden, a washer/dryer, and maybe even a dishwasher? (2010 update: move home! and then move somewhere like this)
    • rent a studio space or have a space dedicated solely to creative work where we live. (2010 update: home! and then something like this)
    • have a cohesive creative identity. (still true)
    • work for a creative company, running social media, taking photos, planning events, and creating general awesomeness. (word up. hopefully one of my jobs lined up in NC will include some of this)
    • or, work for an architecture firm and dress like the ladies of madmen? (the dress part still stands)
    • learn final cut pro, cooking skills, french, astrophotography. (yes please)
    • move to raleigh, buy a bungalow, paint it black or grey, and renovate the inside so it’s open and airy. open up an art gallery/comic book store/tea shop. (yes, except in Winston)
    • buy a vintage air stream trailer, renovate into a modern dream and travel, travel, travel. (true till the day i die)
