Some winter flora (taken with my Canon and not my iPhone for once) from a leisurely walk. I stopped at the library and picked up several new books during this sojourn, including a giant biography on Van Gogh. I felt giddy as I walked back to my apartment with a stash of heavy books weighing down my canvas tote bag.

resolutions
I took a walk yesterday and thought a lot about the new year. Last year was such a blur and filled with so much change that I stopped doing a lot of the things I love, like going on long walks, taking photos, and reading books regularly. I still did these things, just nowhere near my normal pace.
Because my main hobbies were all but forgotten, this year I resolve to remember them. I...

New Year’s Eve for me is a lot like Halloween. There’s so much hype and expectation culturally, but it usually ends up being rather dull or even disappointing. Last year I decided to keep it low key and went out for an amazing dinner with a girl friend, followed by a couple of drinks and then home. It turned out lovely. This year, I am having a few people over to my place for a...

Just a few Instagram snapshots from this month.

light
I was walking home from work awhile back and the evening light was so lovely. I took out my iPhone and the street lamps created this beautiful halo effect. A nice little surprise.

some holiday things
I’ve been home sick and in bed all day (minus a trip to the doctor … I’ve got an ear infection AND sinus infection - and $100 in prescriptions). I slept most of the day and now that I’m hopped up on meds, I can’t seem to sleep or focus very well, so I did some online window shopping. The bottom is a holiday gift list that I’m too tired to source right now....
curator
I have a Pinterest and I’m obsessed. I used to put things here, but Pinterest is much more organized. With the little galleries, I feel like I’m curating something like my ideal life, which is dangerous in its own way. There is something really important to me about the images I decide to hold dear. I want them to relate to each other, to tell a story, to reflect something both real...

fall
I can’t believe December is already here. Now that chillier weather is on the horizon, I’m looking through my fall photos from my iPhone and wondering where the time goes. It just happens so fast, you know? I keep meaning to make a 2012 plan, to formally write down my hopes for this next year, but it doesn’t seem like 2011 has even started yet. It can’t be...

piano story
A beautiful, borrowed piano in a quaint Fish Creek, WI inn caught the ears of a tiny listener. The trip to Door County was the quintessential fall vacation and I fell in love with my camera all over again.

green bank
Some photos from a last minute trip to NRAO Green Bank, WV. Cell reception was lost, science was learned, fries were consumed with gravy, motel rooms were abandoned, fun was had. The time was too short, but oh so lovely.

lunch
Pretty perfect lunch from my trip to DC at the beginning of the month. October weekends have been full of travels and I rather like it … DC and West Virginia happened. Wisconsin is on the docket. So many photos, so little time.

welcome home, part 2
After a stint with my family while I adjusted to my new place, my cats are finally home with me. My grandmother’s old cruiser bicycle has found its way over, too. The cats have mostly been under the bed since their arrival, but as I sit here and type, I see a little kitty face peering from the bedroom into the living room. We’re all still adjusting here kitty … it’s...
welcome home
Look what came to live with me! I found this on Craigslist and picked it up for $20. It is musty and the record player needs to be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned because it gets jammed up. Not sure if a good cleaning will solve the problem, but either way, I’m listening to old school R&B on the radio right now and that makes me happy.

some advice or something
“Go for a walk. Window shop. Read the local newspaper. Join the library. Treat yourself to a chai tea. Sleep when exhausted. Talk to people if they have time. Keep clean. Smell nice. Keep cool. Don’t rush. Study. Observe life. Ask for help if you need it. Be nice to yourself. Get a hobby. Eat lots of vegetables. Get organized. Spice your foods. Watch documentaries. Read a book. Go to the...

kinfolk
I want my life to look like Kinfolk … food, wine, music, and simple quality time. I want to savor more and squander less. Furthermore, I really wish there were a good grocery downtown.

Hello Dear Tumblr-ites!
I will be giving a little presentation at work about Tumblr and its fabulous community. I want to know, what are you favorite things about the Tumblr platform, community, etc.? Dish up! Don’t be shy!
xo,
Ashlie
PS: Other questions to think about … How long have you been using Tumblr? Have you ever attended a Tumblr meet-up? Any drawbacks?

good things
Hydrangeas (especially that lovely blueish-purple kind), good meals, promenades that lead to beautiful doors and strange signs, and a relaxing moment on a rooftop … good things indeed.
I have been so melancholy lately. It feels wonderful to remind myself of those tiny, precious moments that are so important, but so easily missed. I want more out of my life right now, which of...

paradoxers
“The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what’s true. We have a method, and that method helps us to reach not absolute truth, only asymptotic approaches to the truth — never there, just...
